2017 - 2019

In 2016, Google's CEO announced at the annual developers conference that Google is now an "AI first" company. This set into motion the development of a new flagship umbrella brand: Google AI.

I joined a few months after this transition as a marketing producer, and led the design efforts with agency partners to build out new brand creative, including logo icon, design language, website design, and brand guidelines. I was also point person on internal efforts to unify our global research teams, projects, and cross-company efforts under the new Google AI umbrella brand. Working cross-functionally, we crafted a centralized vision and story, unifying our efforts in artificial intelligence at Google.

Website Design

Google introduced a new flagship umbrella brand to be inclusive of its global efforts in AI across the org. I lead the challenging efforts of determining what this new structure meant and how to present that externally to represent our unified brand pillars. The website combined two websites into a single platform: ai.google and research.google.com. We simplified a complex system into a new website architecture that combined our research efforts and publication database with storytelling and education.

Brand Design

As a new brand, Google AI required a comprehensive set of brand guidelines  to help our efforts when discussing our complex technical efforts. Because AI is a sensitive topic due to the fear around what it means for our future, developing a messaging strategy and visual language for Google AI was a tedious process to get right. I lead efforts to create the guidebook, complete with a brand overview, messaging, logo standards, design, imagery, illustration, and guidelines and resources for external use.
