As Google inched closer to turning theoretical quantum computing into reality, the Quantum AI team at Google wanted a stronger digital presence in order to attract product users, top talent, and research collaborations, as well as to provide access to Google's quantum computing service and improve the usability of OSS docs for key Quantum AI products.
The team's content and information was scattered across 9+ owned and 3rd party sites, and my job was to consolidate everything into a single domain, develop a clear brand identity, and produce a comprehensive website that delivered our brand story and served each user journey and audience segment. I worked with an agency to complete a competitive analysis and audit the team to determine a vision for the website. Using that information we created a web prototype, and I designed and ran user interviews to test the prototype which helped us shape the brand's key product pillars. I led creative efforts to develop a unique brand visual language and website designs, and I wrote and managed copy for the website.
UX Research & Design
I managed user testing for the website to gain key insights from hearing user expectations, responses and reactions, which we used to inform our product segmentation and website architecture. I designed the sessions and wrote the moderation guide, coordinated the interviews, ran the user testing, analyzed results, and compiled a final report with findings and recommendations.
Website Production
Information about the Quantum AI team, products, and OSS docs was scattered across the web without a clear identity, making it hard for the external community to find the content that they need. I led the efforts to develop a new website, from strategy and UX through design and development. We consolidated all relevant Quantum AI content into a single domain, released a new brand identity, and created new content and product pages to establish a clear narrative and product system.
Brand Development
I led creation of new branding from the client side, working closely with agency partners. When developing the Quantum AI Brand, we wanted it to speak to numerous identities, often at opposition with one another. It had to feel authentic to the team—who insisted we include design inspirations from art installed in the datacenters—while still resonating with a very sophisticated audience of research scientists, who generally prefer dense academic content to highly designed web pages. We pushed through numerous iterations to land on something both scientific and beautiful.
